The curtain has finally come down on the dance of democracy. Nagpur saw a close contest between Congress candidate Vilas Muttemwar and BJP candidate Banwarilal Purohit . The BSP candidate Manikrao Vaidya also tried to gatecrash in this contest. After the low turnout on April 16, things looked bleak for Congress. There was infighting within Nagpur congress, with a big section opposing Vilas Muttemwar's candidature. BJP tried to cash in on this - Banwarilal Purohit would have felt this was his best chance. After the polls, even Vilas Muttemwar was candid in accepting the fact that infighting within Nagpur congress was a big dampner.
But, Nagpur has chosen Vilas Muttemwar for the seventh time. Vilas Muttemwar has been elected from Nagpur loksabha constituency in 1980, 1985, 1991, 1998, 1999, 2004 and now in 2009. A continued run for Vilas Muttemwar should help in solving the issues plaguing Nagpur. There are many problems that exist in Nagpur - Biggest being of load shedding and lack of quality jobs. We hope that in coming few years, Nagpur will not have to face power crisis. Hopefully, the work at Multimodal International Hub Airport at Nagpur (MIHAN) gets fast tracked. All these are hopes of Nagpurians, who expect Vilas Muttemwar will make this dream come true.
We wish Vilas Muttemwar heartiest congratulations and hope that Nagpur emerges much more stronger in the next five years.
