Education has paramount importance in every society.
Nagpur has had the luxury of being one of the major centers of education. The primary education here is comparable with the best in the business. We've a wide gamut of schools that impart the best possible education to the students not only on the academic front but also make sure that the overall development of students take place with aplomb. The purpose of education is to polish young kids budding with energy into diamonds cut at 72 edges, resplendent and ready to take the world by storm. This puts a lot of responsibility on the shoulders of the pedagogy to be well equipped in all respects.
Nagpur Schools like Bhavan's, Centre Point, Xaviers, Mount Carmel, Somalwar etc. have been leading the bandwagon and the alumni of these schools indicate that the quality of education here is par excellence. Apart from these schools, there are a lot of Nagpur municipal schools which are govt. aided and hence take care that education is spread even in the lower circles of the society and doesnt remain the prerogative of only the opulent. Aanganwadis and these schools, with the facilities of afternoon lunch funded have been able to draw the attention of parents who want their wards to be educated but couldnt afford the whopping fees as for them making both ends meet is a difficult proposition. Primary education has a lot of importance in the lives of individuals because that's where the mindset of students is shaped to take a specific direction in their lives. When they enter the schools, they are like a fish in a new aquarium. Once they are guided in the proper way, they feel in sync with the scheme of things.
Once the primary education is done with comes the issue of taking a graduation career that gives them the fillip to become really competitive in the worldly ambience. Nagpur has myriad colleges in multiple disciplines. We've VNIT, LIT, RKNEC, GHRCE, YCCE, KITS etc which provide the budding technocrats with state of the art education facilities to make a career in engineering .Similarly we've GMC, Lata Mangeshkar College and others that provide medical courses to make people ready for the most noble profession of all. The Law college of Nagpur is one of the best in country. Nagpur has Asia's only fire engineering college. There are multiple colleges for normal graduation as well like GS, LAD, Raisoni College etc. Its a big list in all .The gist of the story is Nagpur provides a congenial ambience for complete formal education to make the student equip with the paraphernalia to deal with the world.
As far as post graduation is concerned, Nagpur still has to cover some ground with world class institutes. We still dont have a B-school that can claim to be there with the ivy league .So most of the students do move out of the city to pursue higher education. This is the issue that should be dealt with as the city can be a really driving force even for PG education. We've a few coaching centers that impart training to get into top B-schools, thus there have been students who've made into the coveted IIM's. BUt having an institute of the same league in our own city would give us the right push.
As Joseph Addison put it perfectly - What sculpture is to a piece of marble, education is the human soul. India being one of the countries considered backward in education, has been the nub of many social taboos just because of lack of awareness in people. Be it extremist communalism, castism, following antediluvian social customs, no cognizance about epidemics, no awareness of basic fundamental rights and to top it all being incompetent in the tooth sweating competition; it all roots down to the absence of proper education.
Education is really important and there is no questioning that. What we need to understand is the fact that education alone is not enough. Its better to be illiterate than be an educated adamant fool. The purpose of education would be realized only when we become more knowledgeable and wiser. So lets take wisdom as a yardstick and not merely an amalgamation of facts and information as a benchmark.
